  • Een autonoom voertuig is een voertuig met een automated driving system (ADS) dat hardware en software gebruikt om de dynamische rijtaak uit te voeren binnen een gedefinieerd operational design domain (ODD) zonder hierbij te communiceren of samen te werken met andere systemen (nl). An autonomous vehicle is a vehicle fitted with an automated driving system (ADS) that uses both hardware and software to perform dynamic driving tasks associated with moving the vehicle within a defined operational design domain (ODD) without communicating or cooperating with other systems (en).

  • Een autonoom voertuig is een 'zelfrijdend' voertuig dat informatie over de omgeving verzamelt op basis van eigen sensoren waarbij geen sprake is van communicatie met andere voertuigen en/of de wegkant. Dit in tegenstelling tot een automatisch voertuig wat eventueel wel met andere systemen communiceert. De begrippen automatisch en autonoom voertuig worden veel door elkaar gebruikt (nl). An autonomous vehicle is a self-driving vehicle which collets information based on its own sensors without communicating with other vehicles or road side systems. In contrast, an automated vehicle could (optionally) communicate with other systems. The terms automated and autonomous vehicles are often used interchangeably (en).
